Collection compared to installment

Ok, before I continue to fight and my head explodes - what affects fico more?  JDB's Midland, LVNV, and Asset love to report accounts as intallments with past due balances instead of the correct status of collection.  Does anyone have a definitive answer before I keep fighting these guy's?  I've been under the impression that how they report hurts my credit score more than if they reported correctly as a collection.  I've disputed multiple times and they refuse to report as a collection.

Re: Collection compared to installment

I wish I had a clear and solid answer for you, but I don't.

I have done lots of research on this- and these JDB's are using the federal FDCPA for debt collection and state laws as an OC.

They think they are creditors and not "debt collectors" and here in AZ they have managed to get away with this for sometime.  I have raised a HUGE stink with AZDFI and am just starting to get results.

They are not on my reports, I am helping others.

My advice is to dig though your state statues-

Re: Collection compared to installment

I requested a dispute with Experian because one slime bag company put in $135 as a payment amount on an 'installment'. It's a collection. I wasn't sure if they tried to re-age it or what. I am lived!
