Combine Cards?

I have a Cap1 Quicksilver1 with a $2k limit and a Cap1 Venture1 with a $7k limit.  The Quicksilver charges me $39 a year and really have no use for it.  Was planning on combining it with my Venture1.  Questions...

-I only have four cards right now and at a year and a half old, the Quicksilver is my oldest...wise to combine this into Venture1?  Will age of my credit go down?  Will it matter if it does?

-My thin file will become thinner and I have plans to apply for more cards in the coming year.  Will doing this hurt me enough to make a difference?

Thoughts?

Re: Combine Cards?

I am asuming that one account will be closed and the other account will get its credit limit.  If so, you will have exactly the same number of accounts (aka thickness of profile) and your age-related factors (AAoA and Age of Oldest Account) will be the same.

Exactly on the closing/combining.  Will the account that's getting closed still count on my number of accounts?  It still ages for another ten years so closing it won't effect AAoA which I totally forgot.  I'd be closing my oldest account.

So, there are absolutely no reasons to not combine them into the Venture1, correct?

Re: Combine Cards?

Accounts on your CR, open or closed, both count equally toward file thickness.

The only reason one may argue not to close one of those cards in your situation is if you have 3 or less CCs currently.  Due to the AF however, my argument would be to close it regardless, even at the expense of a couple of FICO points if that's even the case.
