Re: I will have an answer to this age old question next month; account aging to 1 year?

I've never gotten red flag for new account.  Does that happen to everyone?  My new account is 7 months old.  I had lost point for inquiry and got it back the next month as one fell off. I'll be waiting for the one year info from you.Smiley Tongue

For many people, just getting one new account isn't a bad thing. You acquire a flag when you go berserk.

6 new accounts in the past year bought me the red flag. Mine has just disappeared down to 4 across the board. By October it will only be 1. My application finger is getting itchy.

Is the red flag an indication that average age is being affected, or is the 'flag' just a visual indicator that creditors might consider a person to be a greater credit risk due to recently acquiring new accounts? I was under the impression that red flag items were displayed to indicate an area that is negativlely affecting a persons credit score..??

Re: I will have an answer to this age old question next month; account aging to 1 year?

This test got slightly messed up. Discover caught us off guard by reporting to her CR 2 weeks early and now she is showing a slightly higher UTL than before. Might have to wait another month to get UTL exactly the same for a definite answer. Smiley Sad But lets see what happens next week. Just waiting on a Score Watch update. Account is now 1 year old.

Because of this UTL change these are the possibilities.

A. Score gain means UTL did not affect score, however points gained were from account aging 1 year. (Definite answer) Smiley Happy

B. Score drop means UTL did affect score negatively, account aging 1 year did not bring up the score. (Definite answer if score change = what I think it is) Smiley Happy
(If score is other than what I think it is then we must wait until next month) Smiley Sad

C. No change in score means score dropped for higher UTL, Score increased for account aging 1 year. (Must wait until next month) Smiley Sad

D. No change in score means UTL did not drop score, Account aging did not increase score. (Must wait until next month) Smiley Sad

-----------------------------------------------------------

So A. gives us a sure answer, B. gives us a sure to maybe and C. and D. make us wait another month. I did my best to get UTL reporting with the few days we had to charge and make payments. There wasn't enough time. But we have a 50% chance of getting an answer next week.

Discover did one of those fun intercycle updates for us in December. I called to politely ask WTH and mentioned that my scores had been affected. (TU got me for "too many accounts with balances.")

They said that they never did figure out what caused the extra update, but without my asking, they updated our reports, which was nice of them.

You (or your GF) might try calling them.

Hauling, when did your red flag for your app frenzy go away?   At 3 months?  We are 6 months out by now, right?

If that was your only new account, and you are very conservative in your credit behavior overall, I can easily see that increase as a reward for no longer having any new accounts.

The higher your scores, the more dramatic the swings.
