I have one card with a balance that I am just using for day to day things. To maximize by credit score, how low should i pay the balance to on a $3000 limit? I was told 10 % but that seems high with this balance. All my other cards are at $0
Three things will affect your score as far as your CC balances:
(1) Total utilization (all cards and their limits combined)
(2) Individual utilization (each card considered by itself)
(3) Number of cards reporting a positive balance
To get optimal results on a given month, you want:
(1) Total utilization < 8.99%
(2) Individual utilization < 28.99%
(3) Most cards reporting a zero balance (but not all of them)
You don't mention what your total credit limit is, but let's assume for a second that it is $6000. Then that card you mention would need to be reporting a balance of less than $540. In this scenario (total CL of 6k) factor #1 would constrain it more than #2 would. If, on the other hand, your total credit limit was 20k, then factor #2 would constrain it more.
FICO rounds all percents up, so what some people do as a practical solution to those three factors is that they just use this rule:
All cards at Zero Except One (AZEO)
With the remaining card showing a small positive balance (e.g. $10).
Final note:
Observe that you can get all the scoring benefit from these three factors very quickly, typically within 40 days of paying down your cards. Thus some people don't worry much about any of these three factors, except when they are preparing to apply for a CC or a loan. Instead they just use their cards naturally and always pay in full. Then when they need to get all the extra points, they pay their cards down as above (AZEO).

It appears you may have posted this in the wrong thread, as I'm not seeing what you are referring to above.

Since your other cards are reporting a zero balance, if you want to optimize your scores you should let the 3k card report a balance of $270 or less.
