Re: Credit Scoring 101 - START HERE!

I had my score drop 2 points after it had risen from 637 to 680 in less than a month, I cant see where I did any thing that caused it to decrease. The report did say I may have been put into another catigory, what ever that means,... i am thinking that is what caused a drop of 2 points??? what is this category stuff???

Try doing a search for buckets or score buckets.

And welcome to the fora!

Re: Credit Scoring 101 - START HERE!

As a newbie I would like to say, "Thank you!  I found this information very helpful!"  I was reading on another thread that the place to start is ordering a hard copy of the reports to obtain addresses and numbers.  How would I go about ordering these 'hard copies'?

Go to annualcreditreport.com and order there, one for each bureau. You can get on online version, or a printed and mailed version. I'm an instant-gratification person, so I do everything online. Smiley Happy

Re: Credit Scoring 101 - START HERE!

Wow, That is a lot of information. I just was notified that my score went up 18 points. I think that is 530, pretty low still. I am trying to re-fi my house because I have a mortgage at 11%. Anyone have any suggestions. I was hoping that the New Mortgage bill that was passed at the end of July would help me out, but I don't think so. Brandy

Re: Credit Scoring 101 - START HERE!

I am working hard at paying off the bad debts on my credit report by contacting the creditor and working out payments or settlements. I have recieved many letters stating the debt is paid and no amount owed. i have sent many letters to the three reporting agancies to remove the derogatory statements.

Will doing this help better my credit scores?

My goal is to purchase a home around fall next year. My current credit score is below 500.

Yes, but cell phone companies typically don't report at all. If it did report, it would only help if the opened date for your account was older than your avg. age for your credit history.
