Credit card balance at zero for a while, then having a balance - does this lower ones credit score?

I recently read online that keeping a credi card balance at zero for a while, and then having a balance on them (even if it is a low balance) can lower ones credit score.

(because you are going from an inactive account into an active one).

Is this true or false?

Thanks!

It has nothing to do with inactive to active. It has everything to do with using the card. Now, if you were to use the card and pay it all off before your statement posted, well you wouldn't see any changes to your credit scores. However, if you were to only pay the minimum after your statement closed, well, you more than likely would see a hit of some kind to your scores. Paying in full is always a good option. Therefore, if you were to pay before or after the statement closed, it wouldn't matter. If you paid after, your scores would lower once the statement posted and then raise the same amount, once you paid in full. A pendulum, if you like. Pay in full is good. Welcome to myfico.
