Credit lockout

Is it possible to lock down your credit where if an inquiry was made you would have to unlock it after viewing what entity was making the inquiry?

Security freeze

Many states allow a security freeze.  No one can access your credit report for any reason until you give the creditor your pin number or you lift the security freeze. The credit bureaus will provide you with the pin number.

Some states do not have this law.  I have just put a freeze on my reports so I can control access to only those I give access to.

Re: Security freeze

Good topic but let me include this. I have placed security freezes on all three of my reports because I was a victim of fraud. But, I have noticed two companies that have been viewing my report each month for the last 5 months. I do not have an acct with them and have no clue as to whom they are. I will be contacting the reporting agency and asking questions regarding this violation of security freeze practices.

Fico trivia question: True or False; Two companies (Original creditor & debt purchaser) can report the same bad debt at same time on your credit report.

Re: Credit lockout

I vote false.  Once a creditor has sold your account to another, they are no longer your legal creditor to which you owe any obligation, and have no right to file negs against you.
Having said that, they can clearly do it if they choose to.
The CRA doesnt know the legal status of an account, and will accept reported data.
Proper? no.  Possible? yes.

Re: Credit lockout

True: they can both report, but the CO has to report as charged off a $0 balance. They can't both report a balance.
