Credit score drop

Just curious how my credit score can drop 17 points for paying off a debt?? The account had been open for 4 years and 4 months from the payoff I paid the account off and my credit score went down 17 points because of this!!! It was a high interest ra account.

What type of account? A term loan with fixed payments every month? As noted, thre are daily comments here with the same issue, paying off a car loan or other term loan, or paying all credit cards to zero, and there's a significant score drop.
