Welp.
I just got an alert that an account had been closed. It was my final student loan.
I was surprised because I had paid it down specifically to $99, so that I would be able to keep that account open (opened in 2020) and in good standing for a while, giving a much-needed boost to my scores. The loans had always been paid on time. I thought a round number like $99 would help me remember that balance.
I just called my student loan provider to find out what happened (Nelnet), and they told me that though they don't advertise it, they write off balances under $100!
Which is, in theory, great that they give students any boost at all. But NOT GREAT for my FICO 8.
TU just went from 692 to 662. Waiting for the effect on the other two.
Anyone have any good idea for installment credit I'll be able to secure with a 662 TU, no current income and no need, want, or ability to get a car or personal loan at this moment?? I guess EX is 698 for now, which might help. EQ is 659.
I guess I'd like to get something sooner rather than later, in order to minimized HPs and new accounts
This credit journey is to set me up for a mortgage in 1-2 years. So I don't have good credit needs in this moment, but I'm just trying to keep things on the up and up so I'm ready. Oh, except for my job hunt, I guess! I do need good credit for that.
So frustrating.
After pausing to breathe and search these boards, I am seeing that I can join a credit union and get a small SSL loan.
I guess that is what I will do.
I do appreciate all the wisdom here, thank you. Never thought I'd be annoyed by having some debt written off lol

you need a SSL that pushes back the due date when you pay it back, if you're not getting it from NFCU or PenFed, check to make sure they do so you can get your points back
