Dispute Items = Score Drop?

I disputed several items on my credit report yesterday.   3 of them were late payments and 1 was a incorrect balance

Today I get a notice that my score has dropped 21 points.   The only changes/alerts given was the 4 disputes I filed directly with Equifax.  I see NO other changes noted

Why does a dispute trigger a score change?

Disputes do wonky things; namely, they can partially or completely discount a tradeline from scoring.

Is why you generally have to remove disputes for a mortgage.

Thanks so much.  I acutally can see that as making sense.   Something shouldnt count if it is in dispute.  In some cases I can see the score going up when they do this but in my case it may have removed 3 autos and a credit card temporarily.  I guess I will wait it out
