Does Amex continue reporting to authorized user's credit report after one is no longer an AU?

I've been an authorized user on an Amex card for over 3 years that has a high credit limit. It has helped my utilization rate tremendously. I've been just informed by the primary card holder that Amex had cancelled his card (and mine too) after a failed Financial Review and he doesn't plan to make payments to any outstanding balance.

Should I proactively reach out to Amex and ask them to stop reporting this card to credit report? Their regular customer services says I'm no longer an authorized user as the cards have been cancelled. But for credit report related issues, they give me a different number to call. I don't know how Amex handles credit reports in situations like this. Do they continue reporting to authorized user's profile after one is no longer an authorized user? I'd think that if the card was still valid, then that would most likely be the case. But given that there's going to be derogatory info, I think they may report to both holders' reports to maximize pressure to pay? In the app, it explicitly says on the cancelled card that "You're not personally responsible for it."

Any experience with situations like this would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum.

They very well could report any, and all adverse information to your credit reports. I would recommend contacting them again and asking them to ensure you've been completely removed from the account. I'd also highly recommend you keep a close eye on your reports in the coming months for any adverse information that might be reported. If there is, you should immediately dispute it with the credit bureau it was reported to stating that you were not financially responsible for the account.

Another au issue. Seems to cause a lot of problems. This sounds particularly bad. The account owner is planning to default, thereby commiting credit suicide and take you with him.

Update:

On Experian and Transunion, this card now shows as closed with zero balance and "relationship terminated", with remarks of "cancelled by credit grantor". All previous positive payment history is preserved.

It is completed dropped off from my Equifax report.
