Dormant Account Charge and Increased Score

A few days ago, the one card I am an AU on reported with a small 39.00 charge out of 2000 limit.

This made my TU and EX go up about 10 points, but I can't figure out why.

The card has always been listed on my reports and nothing about it has changed.

Is it simply because it is showing "responsible usage?"

Funny thing is that it did not effect my EQ at all.

Re: Dormant Account Charge and Increased Score

It may not have been the AU account, but other factors, inquiries aging off, crossing a age factor on length of youngest or oldest age of credit history. Are you sure the account was dormant, being not used at all for months, or has been used but paid off and this is just a month a balance reported at statement cut?  You can have accounts report 0 balances every month for months, yet not be "dormant". It is only if they have sock drawered away and no charges for a period of 3 months or more that can be inactive to active.

Re: Dormant Account Charge and Increased Score

That's true. I did have 1 inquiry fall as well as have 2 accounts age another year.

I do know the card was completely dormant - I asked my mom who is the account holder - when I got the alert to make sure there was no fraud. She told me she put a charge on it just to keep it open and going since she hadn't in several months.

I just figured it was correlated since the score change occurred when that card reported.

If your other cards reported a zero balance it would be normal for a small balance on one card to increase your FICO 8 and FICO 9 scores.

Re: Dormant Account Charge and Increased Score

I thought about that as well, but 4 of my own 10 credit accounts report a balance.

If only we could figure out the Fico algorithm, haha
