Down 25 points, no apparent reason?

I started working on my credit score a couple of months ago, and was seeing an increase of around 10 to 15 points a month. 2 days ago, my score drops 25 points because of this dispute? Does this make any sense? The only change on the account is my dispute.

If this is your oldest account...it's factored out I believe while in investigation...which in turn lower your history...which lowers you score...I had mine drop 18 pts last month when I disputed my oldest account...

It could be the oldest, but it's also negative. I would have though having a negative, unpaid account would help a score, not hurt it. I guess I would be wrong. Or will my score go back up it it's removed?

It's possible that the age would beat the derog, but this shows as a collection.

I know that judgments are still using in figuring scoring while in dispute, and I thought that collections were too.

Can anyone untangle me on this please --are collections removed from scoring while being disputed?

It depends.  Accounts that are reported as regular TLs but have a collection description are removed from scoring while in dispute, but accounts reported by a CA are not.  This looks like it might be an example of the former, which means it would be removed from scoring, and that could have triggered the drop due to loss of age.

Be careful what you wish for sometimes when disputing, OP.  As others have posted above, unfortunately accounts being disputed are actually helping more than they're hurting, and it looks like this may an example of that.

Could the dispute changed an old account current?
