EQ Score dropped 28 points, but no reason given

Hi Everyone,

I received an email from myFICO today showing that I dropped 28 points.  But there was no reason given.  Early this month I received an increase of 13 points for 2 accounts closed back around January.

Why would this happen?  The last time I opened an account was Oct of last year, which is already in my report.  I don't have any new late payments; in fact I just finished paying off the last 5% util. So I'm really confused with how the credit score is calculated.

Is it because the want me to keep on buying Score Power?  I just bought one back in June. Help!!!

Thanks!

Unfortunately, SW alerts don't always show the entire picture. You may want to pull your EQ report from somewhere. You don't have to buy a score, but buy a report directly from Equifax or if you subscribe to a CMS, then pull from there. Or if you haven't pulled yet this year, get your EQ report for free via annualcreditreport.com. It could be any number of things like lowered credit limits, added baddies or lates, missing accounts, etc.

When you closed 2 accounts in Jan. your score changed immediately if it changed at all. There is no delay. So something else had to have happened, the trick is to find it. I know it's frustrating but hang in there, you'll find it.
FICO scores on November 17, 2014 (prior to applying for and being approved my mortgage)

OP said that he just paid off last 5% of UTIL. If you take revolving balances to 0 generally this will hurt your score, but 28 points seems too heavy.

Get the real report from EQ. Maybe they deleted some older accounts and have changed your AAofA. Gotta be something keep digging.

Re: EQ Score dropped 28 points, but no reason given

the only way to tell is by checking your reports, as what others have said. compare your last report to current one... I lost 16 points on TU fico and I swear nothing changed, but something did change and I didn't pick up on it - one of my accounts which was previously reported as closed, the closed date CHANGED to a more recent date and guess what, that's one of the reasons I lost 16 points - b/c the date closed was changed to a more current date and my late payment had a bigger impact in the scoring model. otherewise, i got one month older, one inquiry fell off, so i was expecting good news and to my suprise, i lost...

Starting Score: 682 EQ, 663 TU
Current Score: 687 EQ - 705 TU on 7/18/10
Goal Score: 700 + both EQ and TU

If you are willing to pull a FICO report, compare the negatives on the new one to an old one. What changed?
