EQ won't report Verizon properly!

FICO THIS..it amzes me that we are giving Equifax the power to control our credit with a FICO score. Perhaps they should spend some time learning to report correct information. I have been busting my ass fixing my credit and having errors removed. I am **bleep** sick of waiting 30 days for them to fix their mistakes and you can bet your ass I am not waiting another 30. Two weeks ago according to Equifax and their credit watch I had a FICO of 651 and was waiting for an erroneous collection to be removed. I had 1 problem account with Verizon for 87 dollars and this erroneous account. The Verizon account was closed in June of 2007. My report from Equifax generated 2 weeks ago show NO RECENT LATE PAYMENTS. Not March, Not April .NONE. Finally after the 30 days the erroneous account was removed and I paid off the $87 to Verizon. FICO going up right . WRONG Equifax NOT Verizon has now listed that I made recent 120 day late payments in March and April on this CLOSED Verizon account which has resulted in my FICO to go down to 618. THIS IS BS. This account was closed and I have not made late payments on it in April or March as is proven by Equifaxs report from two weeks ago. If Equifax cant report information correctly we sure should not allow them to control our FICO scores until they learn how to report the information correctly. Dear Equifax. I am very pissed and want my damnd report and FICO score fixed NOW. I am so sick of these company's such as Experian and Equifax screwing with our credit and thinking they have no liability. Dear Equifax. FICO THIS

Re: EQ won't report Verizon properly!

Good luck with this! Do realize that it's just as likely that a $6/hr clerk at Verizon miscoded it. Always a nightmare tracing down exactly who's at fault.

Re: EQ won't report Verizon properly!

Hi RD - sorry to read about your misfortune. As I read through this I am a little confused and wanted to ask you to clarify.  You stated you were waiting for an erroneous verizon wireless collection account to be removed for $87. However in the next sentence you state the bill is from June 2007. Then further down you state the account was removed and then you paid the $87. You also mentioned you had not made a late payment in March or April, but are you referring to 07 or 08?

The reason I am asking is I know landline and cellular report disconnected accounts anywhere from 1-45 days after disconnect. So, did you have an outstanding bill from Verizon that was sent to a collection agency, or did you make an agreement for payment with Verizon? Secondly, it sounds like when the debt was paid (after a year), they updated to history to show paid however, if the account had been disconnected (and you made no payments prior to and/or after disconnect), then you will have lates applicable for each billing cycle up to and including when the account was written off. Thus your payment history was updated with that history.

Re: EQ won't report Verizon properly!

Richard, I am not quite sure what you mean when you say an account was "removed."   Normally, once an account is on your CR, it is not removed unless the creditor agrees to do this.  Paying or closing an account does not automatically "remove " it or the prior derogs from your CR.  If it was erroneously placed into collection, and the collection account is then deleted, the primary account that led to the collection may continue to report, even if closed and paid in full.  I am kinda confused by your terminology, and exactly what happened.

Re: EQ won't report Verizon properly!

"1 problem account with Verizon for 87 dollars and this erroneous account." The collection account removed was medical account that was not mine. That leaves me with a Verizon account.

The issue is that the Verizon account was closed by me in 2007 . They were supposed to correct my account and send me a final bill for $57. They would not do so. I waited for them to comply and they stopped sending notifications. In two months for 87 dollars they sent me to collections and marked my credit for 7 years. I got an attitude wrongly thinking that an $87 mark on my credit would, not hurt me. WRONG. THIS ACCOUNT WAS CLOSED and became a collection account in 2007.

I found out about the damage and contacted Verizon in May 2008 to pay the $87 which I did direct to Verizon and waited. I had a score of 351. So paying off the $87 and having the medical collection account removed should have raised my score. I have not paid a bill late since last year. So what happens.

Equifax reports the account a closed and paid collection account in one part of their system with a CA designation for March and April 2008 as it should have been and not 120 days past due as they could have marked it due to their own payment history key. It is listed as CA.

Now I get a reported drop in my credit score and as explained by Equifax Credit Score it is due t a recent 120 days late payment. Which account . Verizon for March and April 2008. So in one part of Equifaxs system it is reported as CA for march and April 2008 and another part of their system it is reported 120 days past due for March and April 2008. This has resulted in my score drop.

You said"then you will have lates applicable for each billing cycle up to and including when the account was written of" Wrong. This was a closed collection account and not an open account which was accepting and maintaining payments monthly. They cannot report you 120 days RECENT late payment just because you paid off the collection account.

To verify this please understand that NOBODY at Verizon is reporting this as 120 days past due in March and April 2008. Equifax is doing it on their own.I have confirmed this ten times. I have spent two days and 8 hours trying to get them to correct THEIR error.

I finally got someone who could speak fair English and walked him through the accounts and his light bulb went on. I recorded the entire conversation in which he states. "I acknowledge that this is a clerical error at Equifax and can see where the system is reporting two different listings. We will expedite the investigation" I asked why I should have to wait 30 days for you to contact Verizon when they are not reporting it 120 days past due. YOU AT EQUIFAX will still have the same clerical error.

Yesterday I got the results of the investigation in an email that said the payment history was changed to CA for March and April of 2008 and nowhere in their is it listed as 120 days past due. It was Equifaxs error.

Now we still have a problem. My credit score has not changed. I have called to confirm that the 120 is out of their system and ask why my score has not changed since the factors of 120 days past due and Recent late payments have been removed. Their answer was their system was down and call back later. We are now on day three.

So now I will take the recorded conversation to my lawyer in which an Eqifax employee admits that my score dropped 40 points due to a clerical error at Equifax and we will see if they fix the problem then.

Like nearly everyone else on these boards, I desperately need white space to be able to read long posts, and I could see that this was not a Firefox issue. Please add paragraphs, so that we can understand your posts! --thanks

Re: EQ won't report Verizon properly!

"lates applicable for each billing cycle up to and including when the account was written off." That is my point. The account was written of in June 2007 so how do I have 120 day lates in March and April 2008

Re: EQ won't report Verizon properly!

OK, as best as I can tell, the lates are removed, but the collection remains, correct?

Unfortunately, or actually, fortunately, your FICO score is not a sum of all of the possible penalties for all the derogatory information on your reports. While it does take into account multiple factors, low scores are often driven by one major derogatory. In your case, I *think* that it is the remaining collection that is doing this.

If I misunderstood the current situation, I apologize.

Congratulations on getting EQ to report correctly! It's a real victory when you can get a CRA to clean up their messes.

Re: EQ won't report Verizon properly!

"I *think* that it is the remaining collection that is doing this." Actually the collection was on the account with an unpaid balance when I was at 351. It was not at that time listed as 120 past due for March and April. So I pay off the bill($87) and it now is a paid collection but Equifax has reported it as 120 past due for March and April. The score Power at Equifax generated by Equifax says the drop in my score to 618 is DIRECTLY due to the Verizon account being now listed as 120 days past due in March/April 2008. This is NOT being reported this way at Verizon So yesterday I get an email saying it is now listed as CA for March and April. Today I call to verify and ask why my credit score has not moved if they corrected the account. They informed me that they still have NOT CORRECTED the error and my credit score has remained the same because the 120 days past due is still not corrected. Even though I have a print out from Equifax that says the account for March and April is CA and not 120 past due it is still reported 120 past due somewhere in their system so I accomplished nothing. So now we sue the low life scum bags . Look for my new upcoming web site called www.F..you Equifax.com where I will post the issue as well as the recorded conversations of them admitting it is an Equifax clerical error that they refuse to correct. They pissed off the wrong person. I already am working on one web site for Verizon which is up at www.f...youverizon.com.here you will find all Verizons collection efforts and the hidden fees and taxes they rape you for when opening a wireless account as well as Verizons policy to go after and demand hand over of Domain names derogatory towards Verizon

Re: EQ won't report Verizon properly!

Here is the answer to why :Any other victims. Ms. Watson, Here is the end to this dispute. This should help you to understand where EQUIFAX has a problem in their reporting system that has resulted in myself and probably others taking drops in their credit score My Verizon Account was reported from Verizon as closed paid collection and listed as CA for March and April 2008 and June July 2007. Here is the Payment Key for any single Credit Report obtained form EQUIFAX. Notice how it distinguishes form Collection Account(CA) and 120-149 days past due(120)My Verizon account on my 6/19,18,20,23 2008 is listed as CA for March/April 2008 as it should be. NOT 120 days past due Meaning Symbol Pays or Paid as Agreed: * 30-59 Days Past Due: 30 60-89 Days Past Due: 60 90-119 Days Past Due: 90 120-149 Days Past Due: 120 150-179 Days Past Due: 150 180+ Days Past Due: 180 Collection Account: CA Charge Off: CO Foreclosure: F Voluntary Surrender: VS Repossession: R Not Reported: NR Attached is a copy of the dispute Results I received from EQUIFAX. It does not matter how many times Verizon tells you it is a closed and paid collection account. YOU ARE GOING TO REPORT IT as 120 days past due because your PAYMENT KEY FORCES IT TO. YOUR PAYMENT KEY HERE does not allow you to properly distinguish between a Collection Account and a 120 days past due account as do YOUR other payment keys. This key lumps the two together and incorrectly reports a collection account 120 days past due.
