You are correct. Was the product the Equifax Identity Report? That runs off a scale from 280 to 850 but doesn't score credit and considers indentity info, address changes, risk for ID theft, etc.. This score isn't a FICO score.
It comes down to consumer education which is one the big pluses about these forums. I've learned here that if a so called "credit score" doesn't mention "FICO" then you need to be very, very careful and read the fine print.
