Examples of myFICO payment history: Poor-Exceptional

Hi, I recently came across a post where the person has a clean total payment history of 4 yrs,7 mths of on time payments no lates/derogs and on their Myfico credit report its Fico score ingredients listed as GREAT.(at some point in time Myfico changed GREAT to EXCEPTIONAL).I think the ranking has to do with what scorecard you are in and then your profile is compared with people with similar profiles.I am tring to see any  examples of how long it would take for anyone with a clean payment history on any Myfico credit report, for their payment history Fico score ingredients to go anywhere from POOR-EXCEPTIONAL.My payment history is too long my oldest acct was opened 14 yrs ago . Any information posted up will be great.THANKS in advance.

Re: EXZAMPLES OF MYFICO PAYMENT HISTORY POOR-EXCEPTIONAL

Your premise is that someone who just generated a FICO score, after about six months of activity, where they actually did not miss a single payment, would be ranked as "Poor" on payment history?

I would hope that is not the case. Someone who has not missed any payments even for a short six months just starting out should not be tagged as a poor credit risk on payments if they have not missed any payments.

To refine your question to others, has anyone just started getting a FICO score, gotten the 3B report, has less than a year of payment history with no lates, and if so what is the Payment History category for that person?

Re: EXZAMPLES OF MYFICO PAYMENT HISTORY POOR-EXCEPTIONAL

Hi, what you are saying makes alot of sense I agree someone should not be penalized for a short payment history. But I think anyone would need a certain amount of on time payments within any scorecard so that the payment history would indicate exceptional. So any examples with a shorter history would be great.  Thanks

Re: EXZAMPLES OF MYFICO PAYMENT HISTORY POOR-EXCEPTIONAL

My kid's scores were in the 500s when he got his first card, even with on time payments. It would be nice if they started you out in the 600s and let you go from there.

Re: EXZAMPLES OF MYFICO PAYMENT HISTORY POOR-EXCEPTIONAL

It's just an interpretation of the report, it doesn't matter.  If you have any deliquencies or derogatories at all you're going to be penalized for it.

Modern FICO algorithms you start at like 700 after six months anyway and go up from there.

As for short credit history, when you can hit 760 in one year and 800 in 2, that's really not that long honestly.  Need to have some history on the file to make a reasonable risk assessment, no history = Oujia board approvals.

At the end of the day it's pretty easy when it comes to FICO scoring: stay clean my friends!

^^^I am completely blown away by this statement above. What else was on his reports?  They don't usually start out in the 500s with clean credit. My kids started out in the 700s IIRC.  But they started out with a completely clean report. Do you know what was on his report that made him start in the 500s???

All of the fluff wording that goes along with a score is exactly that, fluff.  Exceptional with some software is 750+, others 760, some 800, etc.  As Rev stated, it doesn't matter.

A clean payment history for 4 years and 7 months means nothing.  What means something is a clean payment history for 7+ years.  7 years is the amount of time it takes most late payments to fall off of your credit report, so even lates that are 6.x years old (especially major lates) are going to be significantly negatively impacting your score even if they pass the 4 year 7 month mark.
