Experian Scoring

I am not sure why, but I always "liked" Experian best out of the bureaus.

I also thought their "Experian Boost" could be helpful.  Maybe it is somehow.

And, for sure, I know it will improve with time.

I do have more inqueries with Experian than the others...a lot more.  So, there's that.

But, even with Experian Boost, my Experian score is quite a bit lower than TransUnion and Equifax.  659 Experian, while TransUnion is 672 and Equifax is 673.

I know that's "only" 14 points difference, but I think 14 points is a lot in this context.  When I first did Experian Boost, it really did boost my score, but it seems like it has fallen to the wayside.  I have looked over my accounts.  I was able to get some old accounts removed early on TransUnion.  And Equifax has an old Dell Financial account 2001 (last updated 2010 for some reason, it says, which is why it's still with me, I guess) that's in good standing.  Maybe those elements bring EQ and TU up.  It is frustrating, though.  I guess my EQ score might take a dip next year when that account falls off!

Re: Experian Scoring

What is the source of your scores?

Experian Boost to me seems like more of a gimmick than anything else.

Assuming all of your scores are from the same scoring model and drawn upon the same bureau data, a 14 point variance between top and bottom score is perfectly average.

MyFico.  I don't speak of Fako scores.  Smiley Happy  More than anything, it just bothers me that Experian is lower since you'd think it would be the highest.

Re: Experian Scoring

You said you've got the most inquiries on EX.  So, all other things being equal, one could argue it should be your lowest.

Re: Experian Scoring

I guess the inqueries overtake the Boost.  Bah!  Smiley Happy

Re: Experian Scoring

Well, not for nothing, but inquiries are a "real" scoring factor... where boost is in my opinion just fluff.

Re: Experian Scoring

I can see boost being helpful to those under 600, as any point increase move them closer to "Good" credit rather than "fair". Anyone above 700 really shouldn't need that medicore score boost, however. Especially with the oinfo release that's attached to it.

Re: Experian Scoring

"Good" or "fair" or any other word is really just fluff.  What matters is someone's overall profile.  I would think in most situations if someone is at 600 without "boost" and is at (say) 625 with it, the majority of people if you're talking a MR would see through the 25 point fluff and it wouldn't make anyone more good or less fair, or whatever.
