I'm badly confused by this thread
.
Collections != Charge Offs and vice versa.
Charge offs occur on OC tradelines as part of payment history: those tradelines do factor into AAOA and the rest.
Collections and other public records do not factor into any of the tradeline calculations at all.
Removing collections is nothing but goodness. CO's being whacked, may or may not help when it comes to payment history, also depends on your file and if you got rebucketed. Basically if you have short / thin credit besides the negatives, when the negatives start coming off you may lose points as the scorecards overlap... moving from near the top of scorecard A to the bottom of scorecard B, can indeed cause a drop.
Ultimately any negative being removed is an absolute win, just make sure you have positive tradelines to be building history on that front too.

Even if I settle the collections they want to remove them from my report. Both have 5-6 years of age. These are collections from credit card charge offs originally . I just don’t want another 30 point hit from my average age decreasing again. It seems like I’m better off not settling
You dont have to worry about that with the removal of these collections. If anything, you will get a bump in score.
