Re: FICO effect of CLI's?

It wasn't immediately clear to me what you were asking.  You asked "what's up" (but nothing more specific) and so I took a shot at responding.  But also as I said my eyes must have been tired and I misread your initial post.

I honestly can't think of ANY single change to one's credit profile that should in itself cause a FICO 8 rise at one CRA and a FICO 8 drop at another CRA.  (Assuming basically identical data.)  If you or anyone else can think of a good example that would be fun to know.  That's why I am thinking that the simulator is just being squirrelly.

Best wishes for a good weekend, buddy...

Re: FICO effect of CLI's?

The simulator is calculating your score based on recieving a CLI resulting in a hard inquiry. Typically FICO scores decrease 1 to 5 points based on hard inquiries in the short term. However CLI's resulting in a soft inquiry would not impact your score negatively. The CLI could have an immediate positive effect on your score by increasing your available credit, which could simultaneously lower your credit utilization percentage. This all depends on the amount of the increase and your current credit utilization.

Re: FICO effect of CLI's?

Wow... thanks!  That actually makes sense.  An inquiry is only sent to one CRA, thus the one CRA that the action causes a score drop for.

It still sounds pretty klugy: I'd think most people nowadays only request CLIs if they will be soft pulls.  It seems unwarranted for the simulator to assume you are doing a hard pull and also sounds like possibly bad programming for the simulator to assume SJ's score would benefit.  According to SJ his utilization is extremely low right now (6%).

But I feel certain your explanation must be right.  Thanks, Devante.

Re: FICO effect of CLI's?

The simulator provides an explanation of the result for the specific simulation(s). The simulators have been pretty accurate for me. But results will vary depending on the credit file. And the simulator only provides estimates of your basic fico 8 scores. Many banks and CC companies use various FICO BankCard scores when making decisions .So It would be helpful if the simulators worked with the other fico scores as well. It is possible to gain points on the basic fico 8 scores and lose points on the fico bankcard scores. It happened to me.
