Obviously I have no answer to your riddle, but it is interesting that they alert describes the descriptor change and not account status/number changes.
Of course the crux of the change probably has nothing to do with closing this card. You know the drill, what else changed, yadda yadda.
Lastly, this is I presume a commenity card. Is there a world it was some sort of store card penalty (yes I know it says Mastercard). Grasping at straws here. TT's answer is probably better than anything else.
Yes I know the drill lol . Nothing seemed to change other then that account was closed but who knows .

Consider the possibility that another account aged past a significant threshold (or your average account age did so).
There are a number of significant FICO factors that can change within the same timeframe as a flagged factor change that can be the actual cause of a reported score change, but aren't flagged themselves.
