FICO score when not enough credit history

What would be the typical range of a FICO score if one doesn't have any credit accounts or not enough credit history? I have a tenant apply with a score in the high 500s. However, the screening report shows no revolving accounts and no collection accounts. I asked the applicant and they said that they don't have credit accounts and the only accounts are their spouses. They are a young couple in their early 20s. I asked them if they would send me their credit info from creditKarma.com, as they can get it for free and I was hoping it would contain more info, and they said they could not get anything from that site (it shows N/A under the credit agency names TransUnion and Equifax). So I am a bit perplexed. If one doesn't have any credit history, what would be their typical score range?

There is no score if there's no credit. It takes 1 month of history to create a Vantagescore and 6 months to create a FICO score.

Re: FICO score when not enough credit history

What is the source of the score in the high 500s? If that's FICO, it kind of makes sense, because AU accounts do show on FICO, but not in VS. But if so, a) high 500s is kind of low and makes me think the spouse doesn't have great credit, b) if you want to focus on that individual's credit, the score is really zero or n/a since they have no credit of their own. JMO, good luck!

Re: FICO score when not enough credit history

Thank you for the replies!

I didn't know the existence of Vantagescore, so that was good to know. It looks like VantageScore is more forgiving for paid collections. Here is a comparison of FICO and Vantagescore: https://www.creditkarma.com/credit-cards/i/vantagescore-30/

My screening service report doesn't list the source of the score, but in their help content, they mention it as FICO score. In this case, I think I am going to have to rely on references (previous landlord and employer) more than the score because their report mentions that one factor of the score is not enough debt experience.

Thanks!
