I noticed that my bank Navy Fed uses my Fico 9, but what is concerning is that my Fico 8 is at a 779 but my Fico 9 is at a 712.

I have no collections or late payments. I'm also not seeking credit. The last hard pull I had was on November 24, 2018, for a car loan. I have 8 CC's with only two that have a balance putting me at a revolving credit at 37% I have no medical bills since everything is paid for through Tricare. The only thing I can think of is that I'm getting dinged for is the length of credit history and utilization. My oldest card is 15.3 years, but my average is 6.3 years. This coming month My revolving credit will be under 30% From everything I've read, I would assume my Fico 9 would be higher since Fico 8 focuses more on utilization. It is disheartening to see that my bank is using the Fico 9 score. Do you have any ideas on why the scores are so far apart?

I believe that NFCU's July 3rd EQ FICO 9 update was bogus. There are multiple reports, including my own, of surprising and illogical numbers. For my own profile I have reason to believe it was 30 points lower than the actual score, and will be confirming within the next few days when I pull my 3B report.

Mine is within the realm of sanity* - about 11 points higher than my last 3B on 6/25...  I'm not sure FICO9 itself is sane.

* sanity - if you consider that FICO9 is usually 60 points lower than FICO8 for me, across all three bureaus

@Anonymous Do you have a loan modification on record by chance?

@Anonymous No. No loan mod. For some reason it picks up a paid vzw collection as a "serious delinquency."  all the other score models including the mortgage scores ignore it.

That’s good the others ignore it! Wonder what causes the difference?

I have a theory that they used month-old data in the July 3rd "update". If you have access to a MyFICO credit report from around a month earlier, you can test it.  In my case the July 3rd "update" on NFCU was the exact EQ FICO 9 score I had on June 6th.

@SouthJamaica My Navy from July 3 matches my 3B from June 20. And there were a few changes in between there, so you may be correct, we may have to call you the supersleuth!

Not the first time I’ve heard of a FI posting old scores, btw. Good find. So much on our progress on the 13th scorecard. Lol.

No, you're the supersleuth, going into all that heavy thinking on the 13th scorecard. Me, after awhile I refused to 'agonize' further, and instead went on instinct.

Thanks for checking your 3B and confirming.

A few days ago I messaged NFCU member support, telling them my suspicion that there was something off about the July 3rd 'update'. The response was "To obtain additional information about credit reports and credit scores, visit myfico.com, the consumer Internet site of Fair Isaac Corporation, the developer of the FICO score" Smiley Happy
