Yes it can. FICO scoring is not only about your OC account.
Here is how it can progress, as far as delinquencies.
You have an OC account, with late payments. These are recorded in your OC account as 30/60/90+ lates, which are scored negastively by FICO.
Then the OC can do a CO of the account, which is a separate entry.
The OC can then place it into collection, and the CA can then establish a new collection account with the CRA, which is separate from your OC account, and enter their collection account (CA). Double hit.
The CA can then bring legal action, and if they secure a judgment for collection of the debt, you have a triple hit on the same debt by way of a public record (PR)
If you enter into bankruptcy, that can also enter a PR.
One debt can magnify and grow.
What to do depends upon the status of each item, whether you dispute it, and whether the creditor will be willing to accept a PFD before the fact, or a GW after the fact. No short answer on what to do..... very complicated.
