I am going to disagree with some of my forum friends when it comes to Fico not having a memory. About 10 days ago I paid off my one and only card that had a small balance, ( $164 ), before the end of the month. Fico dinged me 15 points, and stated that it was because my balance decreased from $164 to $0. Chase just reported a small balance today, my statement date is the 3rd of the month, and Fico gave me back only 11 points. short 4 points. So, it is fair to say that you don't always get back everything you lost point wise. There was nothing else on my report that changed because I keep track of my reports like a hawk since I made it to the 800 club across the board. Just thought I would share this experience with you.
Is the chase balance the same util rate as the other card was? Does the amount give you the same util rate overall? Having an almost weird fascination with numbers, I have played around with mine a bit over the last few months. I went from 2 percent on 1 card to 2 percent on a different card that was exactly 1 percent overall for both over a period of 10 days with nothing else changing and got all the points plus 2 back (I assume the 2 extra was for the 2 new oks). Then i did the same thing but with a card with a slighly higher limit which put me at 1.75 util on that card (same 1% overall util) and I lost a 4 pts. Individual util and overall util play some factor so there is prob the answer for you...

It was the Chase card that I paid and Chase was the one that reported on the 3rd. So no other lenders where involved. In fact, the pay off and the reported balance were identical with the exception of a couple of dollars.
The maturity of your credit profile changed. You probably got rebucketed.
