Finally my first FICO Score

I finally got my first FICO score after 6 months. I started with an American Express (6months) (global transfer) $5K limit and after 3 months got my second card from Capital One [unsecured] (3 months) $300 limit. Today I got notified by Experian of an update. So happy with my starting point.

Looking to get either Discover IT or Chase Freedom next.

Question 1:

Should I wait for pre-approval offers before applying for new credit?

Question 2:

Next card recommendation? Discover IT or Chase Freedom?

December 12, 2019

Experian: 705

Transunion: 708

Equifax: 703

Re: Finally my first FICO Score

Congrats DoubleDD - nice scores!!

I'd suggest applying for Disco next - only because Chase generally likes to see a full year of credit history -- unless you have a preexisting banking relationship.

You can go to Discovers prequalifing site first to see if there are any offers (it will be a soft pull), then apply.

https://www.discovercard.com/application/website/prequal

Disco seems to like young, thin files so the odds are in your favor.

Best of luck and be sure to update us!!

Re: Finally my first FICO Score

You can try the Discover website to see if you have any prequal offers.

I'm not sure on the Chase site. It's mixed results on how solid they are.

Re: Finally my first FICO Score

I checked and only pre-approved for Discover IT Secured card. I guess I will wait a month or so to see if that changes. thanks

Re: Finally my first FICO Score

That's too bad. Just have patience and check periodically. The more aged your account becomes, the better.

Re: Finally my first FICO Score

Welcome, @Anonymous. Smiley Happy

Congratulations on your nice start.

Don't be afraid to take it slow. You're now past the point where you'd need to apply for a secured card or a subprime card. Options will open up with time.

If you do nothing else over the next six months, you should be ready for Chase when your AMEX is in its 13th month. As mentioned, wait out Discover until you can pre-qual for an unsecured product. You might want to check out credit unions. The present might be a good time for that.

Thanks. As you mentioned, the hard part is past me. I will wait a while and see where it takes me.

Re: Finally my first FICO Score

If you#d like Discover to notice you.. and youll get a free Fico score (not FakO) .... sign up for Discovers credit scorecard.. you will get offers for both the secured card but more importantly be on their radar for a preapproval for their regular products... because they will have a SP for you monthly.

Re: Finally my first FICO Score

Thanks for the suggestion. Already signed up. They are showing a score of 705 from Experian. I'm sure I will see something in the next few months.
