Re: Finally my first FICO Score

You may be able to get RBC and TD cards using your Canadian credit history. The TD card is not a bad card at all

Re: Finally my first FICO Score

Checked for Discover IT card pre-approval today and found I had a pre-approval. Applied and was approved for $1500. Nice way to end my first year building credit in USA.

Re: Finally my first FICO Score

Do you have a good credit history in (I presume) Canada?

If so, TD and RBC might be easy adds. The RBC is fairly useless, but makes for nice credit line padding. The TD Cash Visa has a modest sign-up offer and the basic 3% on restaurants and 2% on groceries.

RBC requires an existing Canadian client card. TD requires your US address to be in their footprint.

Re: Finally my first FICO Score

Hello,

Yes I'm from Canada and have the cross border account with RBC. I haven't applied for the RBC USA credit card yet as I used the Global transfer option with American Express. I have a property in Washington so I have been using my USA address for my credit applications with my USA SSN that I got for a previous job. I already have 3 cards and my next plan is to get an Amex CLI before the summer and then apply for my first Chase card. I'm in no rush but would like to have 5 or 6 cards by the end of 2020.

American Express (Cash Preferred): $5,000

Capital One (Platinum): $300

Discover IT (Cash Back): $1500

Re: Finally my first FICO ScoreOn

Well remember the RBC is a hard pull on your Canadian credit, not American, but reports to American, so it's really freebie credit line padding - you could easily get a 10K limit where which would really improve your utilization.

Just make sure you don't actually use it. (Lousy, worthless card)

Going from my Amex experience, they approved my first card on global transfer August 2018, two more cards March 2019, and two more in November 2019. (I cancelled the first card in October)

Only way I'm ever gonna be given a Chase card is if someone adds me as an AU, lol.

I finally got my first FICO score after 6 months. I started with an American Express (6months) (global transfer) $5K limit and after 3 months got my second card from Capital One [unsecured] (3 months) $300 limit. Today I got notified by Experian of an update. So happy with my starting point.

Looking to get either Discover IT or Chase Freedom next.

Question 1:

Should I wait for pre-approval offers before applying for new credit?

Question 2:

Next card recommendation? Discover IT or Chase Freedom?

Good DP for where a new/thin file starts off for scoring.

For your next card, you can apply for the TD Cash Visa using your Canadian TU file.  You can also apply for another US Amex using Novo Credit (it also pulls your Canadian file).

Since you are interested in Chase cards, keep in mind the 5/24 rule when applying for other products.
