In the current credit climate I would be very wary of AA by my creditors if I were to allow multiple accounts report balances and by virtue of that tanking my scores. I don't want to give anyone any reason to CLD my credit limits raise my APR or close the accounts down entirely. Why chance all of that?

You make a good point.

Maybe I should just keep playing the game until January and then get an Amex Green, which would solve all the util problems.

Or maybe I should rotate the cards after all.  What a PITA, though.

FWIW, I don't see a whole lot of difference in keeping track of due dates vs keeping track of statement dates. In my case, with all my reports, the statements drop on the same date each month, or within a day or two. So I just consider that my deadline, rather than the payment due date. Unless I were to carry a balance, I still have to pay each month.

I lose some infinitesimal amount of interest, I suppose, but in this day and age, it isn't much.

ETA: and it makes me feel virtuous! Smiley Very Happy

A few weeks ago, DH tried to pull the you-have-too-many-cards thing, and I was happy to remind him that the only one with a balance is the 0% BT, and unlike what he did, I'm paying it down on time. Neener, neener.

No, no, I will never use auto-pay.  I trust myself to pay my bills on time more than I trust an automated system whose bugs and glitches I would be the one who ends up paying for.
I use auto debit for my car payment only since if something bad happens, there is a branch were I work.  I also would never use auto payment for a CC.  I pay my Sams card in person at the Walmart down the street.  You beta believe I double and triple check the receipt and call the next day.

Now that I am semi-respectable(credit wise), I whine becuase I have to keep track of balances that were less than the finance charge I was paying on the same type of CCC back in the days when I was less "modest" about my credit usage and FICO score.

Re: Getting a little tired of playing the CC reporting game

I found that I could not sleep at night with out auto pay. I use all my cards and pay by the due date. Easy enough to pif early if I need a jump in score. I never found personally keeping low UTL made a bit of difference long term. Only the snapshot at that moment counted for me.

Re: Getting a little tired of playing the CC reporting game

CCCs are making it harder to play the FICO scoring game these days becasue the rules are different depending on who the CCC is with.  Some may UD/CLD you while others may not for the same reason.  It goes without saying that they dont even tell you the rules.

Imagine playing football and the numbers of downs you get is depdendant on which team you are playing.

Re: Getting a little tired of playing the CC reporting game

I'll be curious to learn the results, since I've never bothered with the CC optimization game. My wife and I simply buy whatever during the month and pay the bills in full when they arrive, so the balances fluctuate quite a bit. Since my FICO scores are always above 780, and I have never been turned down for credit, I've not felt the need to tweak the formula. I do think it's stupid not to distinguish revolvers from convenience users.
TU 791 02/11/2013, EQ 800 1/29/2011 , EX Plus FAKO 812, EX Vantage Score 955 3/19/2010 wife's EQ 9/23/2009 803
EX always was my highest when we could pull all three
