Oh my gosh! I just pulled my FICOs on here today - which I've been avoiding since the lender pulls on 6/7/12, since my mortgage application process is going fine and that's what it was all about anyway. I pulled them because I've been monitoring through Credit Karma and Equifax on a daily basis to make sure that no uglies pop up (and there's no reason any should)... EQ is 742 and TU is 775!!!!
If there is any question at all about how much utilization impacts your score, here is a prime (pun fully intended) example about how it does impact you. My TU here on MyFICO was 689 on 5/3/12. I did my debt consolidation loan with Wells Fargo and paid off all but one account. I've also closed the majority of those accounts and that is still slowing making its way through updating on the CBs, but today my TU on MyFICO is 775. 6 weeks and I gained 86 points. That's got nothing on my EQ scores which were 645 on 5/3/12 and are now 742 - 97 point gain. My utilization was at 65% and now it's down to 5%, plus I cut my interest that will be paid each month and I have a finite date when this debt will be retired.
This is an amazing feeling and very motivating to stay on top of things!

Congrats on the score boost ~ nice job !! It really proves how significant revolving utilization is to your FICO score. And consolidating your debt is a great idea too, good work !

That's great! You have learned a lot in a short period. Congrats on all of your successes.
Thanks! I have to admit that my new job (November 2011) is what has made much of this possible and finsihing up my graduate degree helped so I could get the job. It all started back in February when we got our tax refund and I was able to pay down a good chunk towards our debt. That, and getting my students loans to finally report as IBR, helped me to qualify for the debt consolidation loan. I needed the financial leeway so I could start getting strategic with my credit improvement.
Well played! Now keep it that way!

Definitely! I have discovered the super wonderful feeling of seeing 775 for a score!
Now it's time to work on DH's credit. Wish he'd finish his bach degree more quickly so we could put a second income to work too! **sigh**
Congrats! Your success gives us all something to work towards!
Dang that's great news, are you going to try to hit 800? I know some people dont' look at there score that way because really what's the point but it's always fun to try!
Congrats!!

Congrats!!
Thanks! I'm trying for 760 across the board first, then 800 is next. My only (major) frustration is Experian! I keep telling myself that I need to just let it be 'cause I'm not going to have lender pulls just to find out where it sits.
Dang, Experian frustrates me anyway. It seems to lag behind my other scores. grrr...
Before I head for 800, I really seriously need to work on DH's credit. He still has rebuilder cards and he's an unemployed student so he's not on the mortgage, although we're getting him added to the deed after closing. I'll just work on it like I did mine - in stages.
And yes - I just got the clear to close on the mortgage file today! It came back with NO conditions from the underwriter! I'm thinking that deserves a gold star!
