Hard Credit or Soft Credit Pull on Cable TV?

I recently had the ATT guy come to the door and offered me an internet deal I simply could not refuse.  The operator acknowledged that I was a customer but said I would need to create a new account to get this deal.  They had to check my credit as they would be giving me new equipment.

Later, when they came to install, they apologized and said that since I was already a customer, the sales person made a mistake and I could not get this deal.

So, looks like I get pinged for a credit pull... is there a way to contest this?

Will this ping me?

Thanks for the help.

It will probably be a hard pull on EQ.

If it does turn out to have been a hard pull (likely), your best bet is to call AT&T and ask them to either remove it or at least recode the inq to a soft, due to the goof-up on their employee's part.

Complete removal is a long shot, but a recode to soft is very possible under the circumstances you've described.  Don't be surprised if you have to get hold of a supervisor or otherwise escalate the call beyond frontline CSR's.

Trying to dispute the inq with the CRA would be useless, so no point in going that route.  Stick with asking AT&T to either remove it or recode to soft.

Good luck.  Smiley Happy

Definitely call AT&T...but bear in mind one inquiry is not going to significantly affect your score.
