From everything I've read, it says that hard pulls only affect your score for 1 year. Is this correct? Anyone know why they stay listed on your reports for 2 years then? It would make more sense that if they are not affecting anything, they should just go away completely at the one year mark. Hmmm.
FICO has made a decision in its scoring models to ignore inquiries after they age one year.
But not all scoring models are made by FICO. VantageScore, for example, counts inquiries for the full two years. There are also proprietary scoring systems owned by major lenders/creditors that are different from FICO.
Finally, lenders and creditors may wish to do a manual review of your reports in prep for a substantial loan, such as a mortgage. They might very will be interested in inquiries that occured 13, 18, or even 23 months ago.
Spot on from CGID above.
They may only impact score for 1 year under FICO models, but they'll be visible for 2 years which is twice the amount of time, meaning potential lenders have twice as much to go off of in terms of seeing how much you've sought out new credit in the past 2 years.
Makes sense now. thank you.
