Help me understand why my score jumped 10 point

This morning I got an alert from EX that my Fico 8 jumped up 10 points.

I compared my report from yesterday and today and I see 2 things that could be it.

First one was I had an inq age to 3 months old, so now I have 7 inqs under 3 months instead of 8. Second one was my student loan updated my last payment and the balance dropped 200 bucks. However I am still about 4k over the loans original balance. Also this was the 6th active payment reporting since my BK discharged.

Very interesting.

Re: Help me understand why my score jumped 10 point

My student loan is kind of old, opened June 1st 2012. It was in deferment during my chapter 13. But yeah maybe 6 months of on time payments might have done it.

As inquiries age, they affect you less and less. You should get boosts at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. A 10 point jump could be a,combination of the 2, but we would have to know the utilization on your accounts.

Re: Help me understand why my score jumped 10 point

My total util on my credit cards is 10 percent.

My student loan had a starting balance of 35k and sitting at 39k right now.

My newest accounts were 2 new cards in Aug, and 1 in July.

Re: Help me understand why my score jumped 10 point

Based on my year long scoring experiment using Experian's daily report and score update, there were no scoring changes associated with inquiries until they hit exactly 1 year to the day, I doubt the change came from inquiry hitting 3 months.

@Brian_Earl_SpilnerAs inquiries age, they affect you less and less. You should get boosts at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months.

I do not believe this to be the case.  Any points lost or gained from an inquiry have always happened at one point in time... the point when the inquiry lands on your CR and the point 365 days later when it becomes unscoreable.  If it's -5 the day you take it on, it's +5 a year later.  -7 the day you land a HP, +7 point 365 days later, etc.

Re: Help me understand why my score jumped 10 point

I thought the inq were scored in buckets.

For example 0 to 2 inqs you might not lose points, but 3 to 5 would be a couple point drop, 6 to 7 another score drop and over 8 another drop. So I was thinking going from 8 to 7 could have been a bucket change.

Re: Help me understand why my score jumped 10 point

Maybe I'm confusing it with account age. I know there are boosts for something at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. Wonder what it was....

Yeah not sure, that same account updated on my EQ report and no score change.
