How do I help an Authorized User?

Hi everyone!

Recently, I got approved for the Chase Freedom and my father was a bit jealous. He wanted to apply for that card for a while now, but he has bad credit score around 540 (correction to actual score). So I just added him as an authorized user for my PayPal Cashback Mastercard with the recent increased of CL of $4,750. Beside my father and I working together to keep the UT rate under 5% and paying everything full on time, what else could I do? Should I add him to become authorized user of another card? Would taking my father off as authorized user in a year affect his score greatly?

Any tips or experiences would be helpful.

I think your father needs to address any derogatories that is suppressing his scores; charge offs, collections, delinquencies, etc.

One AU card for him should be sufficient. Benefits are if said card has long credit age, high credit line, zero delinquencies, low reported utilization %, etc.

Re: How do I help an Authorized User?

personally based  on what I have read here I would let him ben an au but never ever given him the  card. Scores that low indicate he won't as in able but not willing to pay things. My DS#1  I have posted about before is the same way.  Another relative I learned jsut gave my DS#! a card for emergency use only.  In 2 months it now is maxed out.   As other poster said he really needs to fix those charge offs. At some pont they will start collections and be it voluntary or involuntary ie judgements.   Once that happens he can't  pay back the new card.

I see. I definitely see what he has on his record. Gonna get him to download Credit Karma to help understand the situation. I'm pretty sure he has derogatory. As for letting him not use my PayPal card sound reasonable to do. Please continue with the tips!

*One thing I want to clarify my father said his credit score is 540 not 350. Sorry for that. Language barrier and accent.

CreditKarma is great for credit monitoring.

Get his FICO scores at creditchecktotal.com (part of Experian) for $1. Cancel in 7 days or less to avoid reoccurring charge.

Cleaning up his report will improve his FICO scores thus, enable him to obtain his own cards.
