How long does it take to generate a TU score?

On CK I have a EQ score of 729 but my TU just has a dash. My fico score is 704 but hasnt been updated since 4/11. How long does it usually take to build a TU score? I see that a lot of lenders use TU and Im worried about building that score up as well. I hope it doesnt get to a point where I apply for something in 6 months and my score for TU just generated and then they tell me I have no credit histroy while I do even if its limited.

It takes 3 months of history to generate a score

There are two major families of credit scores: FICO scores and Vantage scores.  Credit Karma along with many other places offer free Vantage scores.  Unfortunately almost no lenders or CC issuers use them in making decisions.

Karma is valuable, however, in the reports it offers.  (A score is just the data on your report turned into a single 3-digit number.)

Have you looked at the TU report itself -- on Credit Karma?  If so, are you saying that there are no accounts listed on it?  I suspect that this must be the case.  Vantage scores are usually available very quickly, whereas FICO requires that a report have an account on it that is at least six months old.

Yea so on credit karma when I click on TU it doesnt have any history. It only has history on EQ. I do have a FICO score. But do lenders use FICO or Vantage or one of EX EQ or TU? I always thought they pulled one of the 3 to decide.

EX, EQ, and TU (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) are not credit scores.  They are credit bureaus.  A credit bureau is like a warehouse where all the credit information about you is stored.  The bureau produces a summary of this information called a report, which includes a listing of every account you have, closed or open.

When a creditor tries to make decisions about your risk level, they pull a report from at least one bureau.  The creditor might even pull a report at all three bureaus.

But it is hard for creditors to make sense out of the reports in a consistent fashion.  So it is easier for them to feed that report into a credit scoring algorithm, which takes all the info on that report and turns it into a single 3-digit number.  The creditor then has its own set of internal policies for evaluating that single number.

FICO makes a bunch of credit scoring models.  VantageScore makes two (3.0 and 4.0).  Almost no lenders or CC issuers use Vantage.

The upshot of all this is that if you apply for a Citi card (say) they will pick one of FICO's many scoring models and pick one of the three bureaus and then feed the data from that bureau into that scoring model and get a number.  EQ, EX, or TU is the place that houses the data; the FICO model is the computer program that turns the data into a single number.

You may want to try WalletHub.  That's another free tool that gives you your TU report.  If WalletHub also has no accounts listed on your credit report, then you may really have no accounts listed on TU.

What accounts are listed on your Equifax report?  What is the Date Opened for each one?  Does that look like an accurate listing of all your accounts?  (Typically credit cards and loans.)

Chase doesn't use VantageScore so you're all good.
