How many hard inquiries are considered bad?

I don't have very many, maybe 4 since Sept 2014, is this bad???? What should I keep it as??? I don't plan on applying for anything until I apply for a mortgage as soon as my credit is cleaned up and my utilization is down, but I'm just curious.

Dont worry about them.

Banks that will deny you solely for INQs aren't worth your time.

I read somewhere that 5 or more may be considered a red flag

Re: How many hard inquiries are considered bad?

I believe they are listed for two years, but only contribute to Fico scores for 1 year.

Inquiries fall off at the two year mark.

Thank you for the wealth of knowledge I have learned from these forums. I am logging off as of November 9, 2022. I wish everyone great success.

Re: How many hard inquiries are considered bad?

I have noticed that twelve year old inquiries do not appear on credit reports.

Re: How many hard inquiries are considered bad?

Hard inquiries stop affecting your score after 1 year and fall off after 2 years. They dont matter unless the credit lender you are looking to get credit from looks at it as higher risk. Like Barclays. They like to see a low number of inquiries. Just depends.

Re: How many hard inquiries are considered bad?

My wife works in the mortgage business. She told me don't app up to 6 months prior to your mortgage shopping, longer if you think your scores won't rebound from the new account/s and INQ'S. Obviously if you have a thin file new accounts and INQ'S can have a significant affect on one's score.

Re: How many hard inquiries are considered bad?

I have 13. 9 in the last month all approving (except PenFed, as of now). Receiving another $5,500 Credit Card. Credit lines increased from $2,000 to $30,000.

As mentioned above banks look at overall picture. I actively used the $2,000 card. Added 2 (gas card, $500 cc) about 3 months prior to spree. Dropped about 10; 730 >719.

A couple of your approvals will require reconsideration calls to an actual human to approve.
