The last time I applied for credit was about 4 years ago. How much score drop an inquiry would cause ? How score drop for new credit card account? I just started rebuilding the credit and my scroes are around 678.
It depends on 3 factors: The inquiry, the "new account" and the potential crossing of an AAoA threshold with your AAoA drop associated with the new account reporting.
It's all very profile-specific. On some profiles this could be 3 points total, on others it could be 10-15. I'd ballpark guess somewhere in the middle, say 5-9, but it's very difficult to guess without knowing more about your profile. Whatever is lost, though, usually rebounds within 4-6 months of you showing responsible credit use.

I am trying to figure out ways to improve my score. I have applied for Amex Blue and got the message "processing". Amex used to backdate the credit cards to the memebership date. Does it still do that? If it does then it would help my AAoA since my first card issued 37 years ago. If that is still the case and if the card is approved, I'll take hit with one inquiry and one new account but AAoA might improve. On the other hand if it is not approved, I would assume it does not cost me an inqury since Amex used to do soft inq for the pre-approvals. I am going to hold off applying with any other company for another 6 months.
