I tried but failed

I had a collection that began as a legitimate dispute and became and stayed a collection since 2003. Now that I took a renewed interest in my credit, really for the first time in a serious way, I decided I would settle with the company. I settled with the company and then called the CA who refused to delete it (the woman was not even capable of having a calm and pleasant conversation). So, ok. I later find that this IS updated but it dropped my experian rating by 10 points AND added 28 lates to it! It says it was legally settled and partially paid and it's at the top of my report. Is there ANYTHING I can do and do I now have to wait 7 years from NOW for this to be gone? I'm really distressed over this. Thank you. It's was my only collection and I thought settling would help the matter. Instead, it made it way worse.

Re: I tried but failed

Hi sparkee, welcome to the forums. Please read Credit Scoring 101, at the very least, read that first post. To answer your question, the collection will fall off 7-7.5 years from DOFD.

Re: I tried but failed

Yes, I will read that post again, I've read it before. Would it not be a good idea to dispute it in experian and say, look, I have 28 more lates and I tried to resolve this in a fair way? Before this update, there were not all those lates in there. I don't see that as being right. What if I got a letter from the original company asking to remove it and show that to experian? Would something like that help? Thank you for your input.

Re: I tried but failed

In your case, either way would be acceptable. After all, the pain is here now, so it won't hurt to dispute and it seems like a legitimate dispute. Sounds like a CA is eating sour grapes and wants to dog you for it. Sorry that this happened, but it is not that uncommon for a CA to try. I would dispute with the information from the OC.

BTW, that thread is what I always tell someone to read when they have their first post. I kind of assume it wasn't read. Glad you did.

Re: I tried but failed

I can't see how it is right to "pile on" like that when it was not reported from the start, all those lates. Thanks again, I may try to get a letter from the original company. Surely someone has a heart in this. 28 more lates and 10 points down is unnecessary when I tried to clean this up. It really gets me more than irritated. Are there actual people one can speak with at experian? Anyone in authority? Thanks.

Yeah, good luck with that.  You can search these boards for Experian numbers and try to find someone with a heart and soul.  But, as one of our Mods so affectionately says "they are the devil".  It's worth a try.
