Hi. I paid my $500 alliant loan down to under 10% and got a nice 39 point FICO 08 increase. Very happy with this.
my next payment date was moved to April 2019.
However the alliant customer service man told me my payment had to stay th same at $9 ish per menth otherwise I would be considered to have fallen behind on payments and this would be recorded as a late payment with credit agencies!
My last payment went through a few days ago for $9ish taking my loan value down to $25ish. At this rate my loan will be paid off in 3 months, which I really don't want!
any advice on stopping the auto payments and NOT getting a late report on my credit file?
was my alliant customer services man just wrong? Am I safe to stop the auto payments and start making $1 payments occasionally??

I'm still getting pretty OK's on my file when my last payment was in June; stopped auto payments too. Fairly certain your dude was wrong
Also, they wouldn't be allowed to do that anyway, immediate lawsuit would result for an easy win and an expensive loss for them; can't mark someone as late when they clearly are paid up.
Congrats on the major FICO boost though! Can you give us a little more information on your credit file, namely did you have any other installment loans on there, and did it report before or did you pay it right after getting it and it reported in the pretty utilization state?
Thanks!
My credit file is thin. No bad credit. No late payments. I arrived in the US in September 2014.
1st credit card Citibank secured $1000 opened Nov 2014
2nd credit card Capital One $200 (deposit $49) opened Jan 2015, limit automatically increased to $500 by Cap1 in August 2015
3rd credit card Bank of America secured $1000 opened Jan 2015
Alliant $500 secured loan opened Feb 13 2015. I paid this down to 44.97 to be under 9% on 10th July 2015 (anticipating mortgage app which now has to wait another 8 months)
I got the 39 point jump on 9th August, just before my oldest account became 6 months old so maybe this was the reason or part of the reason.
I need a bit of encouragement from you guys to stop my monthly payments to Alliant!! If anyone can post their Alliant statement showing last payment date a few months in the past, but their credit report showing green OKs in the months they didn't pay Alliant this would be very reassuring that I can do the same. I don't want a late payment reported and I don't want the loan to be paid off and "close" as both of these would take away a bunch of points before my mortgage app in 8 months! What a game
I took a bunch of screenshots of these changes on my Alliant statement and my CCT notification of my 39 point jump on 9th August, but now feel stupid that I can't work out how to attach them or copy and paste them in to this message. Any advice on how to share these pictures in this thread with you guys? I'm computer literate but stumped on this one...

Okay, I'll try and explain how to post pics but...It's pretty involved until you get used to it.....
You can't post pics directly to MyFICO as you just learned. It must come from a trusted 3rd party host. I use Imgur.com for my 3rd party host.
I hope I remember all the steps!
1. Set up a free account at Imgur.com
2. Have the pics you want to post on your computer and remember where they are.
3. Sign into Imgur.com and press the upload button.
4. Press the Bowse Computer button.
5. Choose the files to upload and then press Start Upload.
6. Be signed into Imgur on one tab and MyFICO on another tab and your cursor located in your post where you want to insert your image. Go to Imgur, #1 press on the photo you want, #2 right click and copy the second link from the top.
7. Then press the INSERT IMAGE button in MyFico. (Make sure that your cursor is EXACTLY where you want the image to be inserted before you press this button.)
8. Then: #1 Press the FROM ANOTHER SITE TAB. #2 Paste the link. #3 Press LOAD IMAGE #4 (Not Shown) Press INSERT IMAGE
You can resize the images in MyFico before you make your post.
Piece of cake!
Okay, time to see your pics!
(Sorry for the sloppyness but I blasted through this.)
Thanks for the instructions. So how do these look? Need more info?
I think because I only have a few accounts, that maybe all report by chance at the same time of the month, I've noticed that my credit score only jumps around the second week of each month. So this is why my Alliant payoff from 10th July didn't come through to my score until 9th August, which is how it normally works for my scores.
That is so AWESOME that you bumped your score 39 points!
About the Alliant loan...
I would suggest calling Alliant again and hopefully you will get a customer service rep that is more well informed. Ask this question: I paid my loan account in advance and it is telling me that my next payment due date isn't due until 5/20/2019. Is that true? I would like to keep this loan open as long as possible and was wondering if it was okay not to make a payment for a while?
See what they say and report back here because I'm also interested. No matter what they say, I would keep an eagle eye on the account when the due date passes to make sure it isn't marked as late for the first few months.
And now about those screenshots...
You are not taking screenshots! You are taking pictures of your monitor!
Not only is MyFICO a place to learn about credit but you can learn about computers here too!
If you want to take a screenshot when you are using a Windows program like Excel, Word or other Windows program, use the SNIPPING TOOL that is included with Windows accesories. You just need to launch the tool, pick what kind of screenshot you want, I usally use rectangular snip, pull a window over the image you want saved and then save it to your Pictures directory. You can then edit this picture using Microsoft Paint if you want/need to before uploading it to Imgur.com. (That is how I added arrows and text to my images posted earlier.)
Now if you are using a browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox you need to add an extension called Nimbus to the browser. You can do that by opening the options screen and get extensions or add-ons. It works just like the Microsoft Snipping Tool only better.
Now if you are using an Apple Computer, I feel sorry for you and offer no help.

Every lender I've done this with hasn't blinked other than DCU who notified me that they were resetting my advance payments to 3 months. I wouldn't go poking the bear frankly, my Alliant loan is reporting exactly as expected: pretty OK's when I haven't made a payment after June 1st.
I simply don't understand the concern.
Well since it's pics or it didn't happen, note last reported date vs. last payment date.
