Interesting loss of points

So maybe this is odd or just odd to me. I recently had my auto loan report a new lower balance, paid off a credit card, had a collection account removed, and had a Co that reported monthly get paid off and I lost 9 points. It would seem less bad stuff + lower util = hight score? These are the only things that have changed so I guess I don't get it. Maybe the Co reporting again even though it's reporting a 0 balance now but looks new?

Maybe, it's hard to say but you maybe right on the CO reporting given how we've seen collections scored over time.  Also if you have other derogs on there (like the now paid CO) it's hard to get a tremendous amount of upward (or downward) while the derogatories are still there.  Auto loan balances are tricky beasts, to my knowledge we're only just now looking at trying to nail down some FICO 8 installment utilization metrics (if they exist, seems to be a non-issue in FICO 04 and earlier), or at least I haven't seen data posted here previously.

I wouldn't worry about a 9 point drop TBH, sometimes we get wierd results from the algorithms and it's not a precisely known thing; any negative coming off is an absolute good thing over time, and that's as close to a fact is there is.

Nice work getting the collection removed regardless!

Re: Interesting loss of points

Thanks for the reply I appreciate it. I know there is a science behind it all but man its a bummer to get stuff knocked off only to see a decrease. Oh well I don't really expect any decent gains till 2017 when my last paid judgement falls off. Unfortunately I don't think they can be vacated in MI for being paid. Its nice getting close to the point where I'll have nothing but positive trade lines on my CR. It took a fair amount of time to screw my credit up so I can't expect to fix it over night.

Is the base underlying data for the CO reporting the same?  Bureaus may be different in how they score it, don't think anyone's really tracked that religiously that I'm aware of on paying collections in terms of last update vs date assigned vs. DOFD.

Re: Interesting loss of points

To be honest the reports may not be the same I haven't pulled complete ones for a couple of months. I know when I pulled in February TU didn't have the one bad that I just got removed on it. So paying off/down the stuff I have may have affected one different than the other. It was a little shocking as anytime I see an update right now I'm expecting a raise in score as no new bad stuff is going on and only positives for the future are happening. I paid off another card today so I only have my freedom and Amazon with a balance. It will be interesting to see if that does anything. It will probably go stagnant till the end of the year when my first paid judgement falls off. Those are the last major things along with a couple lates on the paid Co. 2 long years with one paid judgement left but heck it will help my aaoa staying in the garden till then.

Re: Interesting loss of points

That IS interesting.

You're also scaring me. I recently PFD'd a CO and PIF'd two others. Those were my only remaining CO's, so I was waiting for them to update so I could see some kind of bump in my score. Now I'm afraid my score might actually decrease. This is so aggravating!
