I've looked at my credit reports recently and really don't want to pay $40 just to get my Equifax and Transunion FICO scores. Does anyone know if there is a way to get them for less money, without having to purchase the report also? I feel like myFICO used to offer this option, but I'm not seeing it...
Score Watch on this site? It doesn't save you a ton, but better than $40/pull.
Are you shooting for a specific score, or are you really just watching your reports? If the later, I humbly suggest considering USAA's service, $13/mo with unlimited tri-pulls. FAKO though.

MyFICO always offered the reports with the scores in all of their products. There were one or two instances where FICO teamed up with someone (forgot who) to provide a score only, and for free at that. It was a special only and it has been 2-3 years since they last did that, at least. It was an alternate site and the first thousand or so visitors were able to get a free FICO score. That's the only promotion ever for a score-only product.
Now there are other sites out there that provide free or reduced-price FICO scores. For example, if you are a member of Digital Credit Union, Unitus Community Credit Union, or M&T Bank, you can get a free or near-free EQ FICO each month. If you happen to have a WalMart CC, you can get a different version of your TU FICO for free each month. And if you happen to have a checking account With Pennsylvania State Employees Credit UNion, you can get a free EX FICO each month. Outside of these, there are many CUs out there that offer a free FICO score and report as part of a benefit for membership.

Thanks! I'm interested in just watching my scores for the next few months, as I'd like to get over 760 to get in the "best mortgage rates" category...

You know, I hadn't thought to check my credit union. Thanks! I'll see what they offer... and maybe consider changing to another.

Fakos aren't ficos. Only worthwhile fico to buy is the eq fico here. Save your money on the tu fico. Score watch from here to watch a mortgage relevant fico score monitoring.
I was under the impression that mortgage lenders typically pull TU - though not the same TU as the one that's given here. Is that the case? Do you think monitoring EQ here is a good indicator of what's happening with the TU04 score?

Mortgage lenders will pull all three credit bureau scores in the 04 version. They will use the middle score. The EQ score you can geet here is the same one that mortgage lenders will use. The TU is not. If the information is consistant on all three of your reports, then your FICO's will usually be close on all three bureaus (give or take 10-15 points or so) They do use slightly different calculations. For an idea for you, our reports on all 3 bureaus had the same info:
For a mortgage I apped in 2008:
EQ=722
EX=723
TU=715
and for DH:
EQ=725
EX=736
TU=722
