J. Crew Card CLI -- But it hurt my Experian score?

My J. Crew card was recently given a CLI from $700 to $1,600 via the luv button on their site--good news, right? Wrong. There was a 5-point score drop from Experian in MyFICO credit monitoring this morning, when the CLI reported, and it was directly associated (according to MyFICO monitoring) with the CLI.

Can anyone shed light on this? I've never heard of a SP CLI damaging one's credit score, even a handful of points.

Thanks.

The score change is not necessarily tied to the CLI. The CLI was just an event that got them to post an update to your score.

The score change was there in the background, and they only showed it when they told you about the CLI.

It's a little maddening and confusing sometimes.

They show them together, so it looks like cause and effect, but it isn't necessarily.

The drop is likely from something else that they don't "alert" about - utilization changes, rebucketing, moon phases, etc

For example, it showed a 2 point drop today when my CapOne CLI alert posted, but the drop was really for my new Barclay's account, which alerted a little later (and also showed the same score change).

Think of it as a, "Hey! This new thing happened, and by the way, since we're taking the time to say hello, we might as well let you know that since the last time we updated your score it has changed to something else."

Ah, ok. If that's the case, then it's kind of dumb that they'd frame it as a cause-effect relationship Smiley Frustrated

Thanks for your insight.

My Fico 3b credit monitoring has alot to be desired as it confuses alot of people.. Only certain things cause updates as others has stated..  It was something else that dropped your scores such as utilization or whatever else it might be, this just triggered the update
