No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
Example: I have a QS1 that's 2 year old, and i have a QS thats 6 mos old. If i merge my less desirable but older QS1 to my more desirable but younger QS, would that hurt my AAoA and/or credit score in anyway?
The Closing Credit Cards threads linked in the Helpful Threads sticky in the Credit Cards subforum addresses this but closing a card does not immediately impact AAoA.
Sorry but your post and that thread that you referred to did not really help as it did not really address my concern. I'm talking about merging two accounts of the same credit card company, not completely terminating an account. Or if it did indirectly apply, you failed to explain how.
Lets make the example more extreme. Say i have a credit card that's 10 years old and still current and i merge it with a credit card that's 1 month old, what happens to the age and history of either card? Does it continue the age/history of 10 years since i am merging accounts?

They remain the same Does it continue the age/history of 10 years since i am merging accounts? Yes, the 10 year old account will be closed and remain on file for up to 10 years post close, it would be better to do the opposite for AAoA purposes in the long run.
THANK YOU for the detailed explanation! So whichever card I choose to merge will be the sacrificial lamb and be closed and the other card will get the CLI from merging both cards. Kind of a double edged sword or sorts where the better and more desirable card would most likely be the newer card and the less desirable card would probably be the one you got before when your credit was not as matured. Got it!!!
