MyFICO Accuracy Question

Hopefully one of the MyFICO moderators will weigh in on this question:

2 weeks ago I received an ALERT that my EQ score went up 55 points to 769. Yesterday I purchased my EQ score as I am documenting my scores for a suit about to be filed against AFNI for failure to remove a charge that does not belong to me as verified by the OC.

My EQ FICO score had dropped to 683. I have opened 1 new CC account with Chase and that has been it in the last 3 years. I have a credit history reporting at 21 years. Nothing negative other than the AFNI which was reporting when the score went to 769.

I received a letter from AFNI last week stating that they were removing the information and I faxed that letter to all 3 CRA's. EX removed it within 24 hours and TU and EQ are still reporting it.

This drop is drastic and seems incorrect. What gives myFICO?

What was the reason given for the increase on your alert?

When you look at the newly-purchased report and compare it to an older one, what is different? The best way is to print both out and go through each with a yellow highlighter, comparing balances, credit limits, dates, and so forth.

This seems odd, and I would keep a close eye via ScoreWatch. Wild swings in EQ scores always make me worry about file splits.

FICO's: EQ 781 - TU 793 - EX 779 (from PSECU) - Done credit hunting; having fun with credit gardening. - EQ 590 on 5/14/2007

Re: MyFICO Accuracy Question

Hogwash,

Has the account been listed as disputed on EQ? That can remove it from scoring and if it was a really old account it might have taken your average age or longest age way down. If not it sounds fishy, I would definitely check your reports with a fine tooth comb.

Re: MyFICO Accuracy Question

2 days later my EQ FICO went right back to 769. I did not talk to anyone about this but purchased a new myfico score.

No system is perfect.

No, no system is perfect, but there was still likely a reason for the drop.  Did you go over your reports line by line like haulingthescoreup and debtisgood suggested?

Did you ever figure out what caused the drop in the first place?  If you do have a split file as hauling suggested, then this will likely happen again, and quite possibly at the most inopportune time.

I'd suggest you need to get to the bottom of it, even if the problem appears to be solved (for now).
