MyFico Scorewatch accuracy???

So I got my equifax report from MyFico, and signed up for scorewatch, all about 3 months ago.my score has been going up. I started at 640 or something, and it had gone up to 663 by the end of December (my last scorewatch alert was for the 29th). The credit card that was on file for auto payments with MyFico had to be cancelled and my scorewatch service got disconnected (no lay payments or anything) and so I signed back up for it today. To my shock, my new equifax credit report is saying that my score "dropped" to 641. Which is where I started. Now my Fico score is also saying 641. There was absolutely no change in anything on the report, except that two of my collections accounts have been removed (my doing). What the hell is happening here? Was MyFico just guessing at my credit score? And when I got a new equifax report it realized "oh, it hasn't changed?" I don't understand.

Re: MyFico Scorewatch accuracy???

Were your collections accounts factoring into your AAoA?

Deleting an arbitrary account can either help or hurt AAoA.

Another point here is that there may be random fluctuations based on variations in utilization, which in turn may be based on whether you pay balances before the statement date.

Re: MyFico Scorewatch accuracy???

I cleared up two the accounts I had in collections. One of which was fradulent on the part of Verizon. They refused to wipe my slate clean though and I think charged it off? Could that be what dropped my account? I'm surprised something like that wouldn't show up in my report...

The other account I paid off and they took it off my credit report. I don't know how that would hurt my credit...

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly!

Re: MyFico Scorewatch accuracy???

Welcome to the forums!

Without a lot more knowledge it's hard to say (as an example, all of your credit cards are reporting *exactly* the same balances?) but if those were your only two collections it's possible your score may have dropped temporarily if your file isn't especially thick or if you don't have a long history.  I wouldn't worry about that honestly, removing derogatory information over even the short-term has huge upsides, a temporary blip is just that.  Congrats on getting your collections removed!

I haven't used Scorewatch that much but it's always matched the FICO score I get from my CU which is the same score model and version.  Also FWIW it does appear to track my own changes correctly though it's all in the 1-2 point range in my case for small balances reporting vs. $0 etc.
