Good evening fellow credit watchers,
Does any one know how FICO scoring treats a revolving (credit card) balance that's negative?
I paid off a credit card based on the statement amount and I knew that there would be some interest charged from the statement date to the date that I paid it off.
I called the bank and they "estimated" interest for me, I padded that a little and made an extra payment to insure that the account would not report a positive balance to the CRAs on the statement date. (If I paid too much, I'll end up with a credit on the account)
I didn't know if FICO treats anything other than "0" in the balance field as a balance or if it treats a negative number as not having a balance (0).
I had 5 credit accounts with balances (FICO says this is a negative thing) and if this account reports as 0 I'll only have 2 left with balances (albeit very small)
Thanks
It will be scored as if it's a $0 balance.
Very good, I'm glad to hear that!
Thanks!
I believe that the balance field for the tradeline will also show as $0, negative amounts are reported as 0.
