Re: New Fico Scoring System for 2008

One has to wonder if FICO 2008 will ever launch.

Re: New Fico Scoring System for 2008

I listen to everything credit and my ears open up, especially new things.  I want to say FOX news mentioned something about a persons ability to pay and income. We are talking about FICO making changes to a very good model. This information is not carved in stone and may change however, I will also keep an ear and an eye open to verify this. This information is not a fact until it is a fact so I am generally making a conversation but in no way is making a statement of fact. As it stands now income does not do anything to change your FICO score. However it is important when making large purchases or obtaining loans lenders do account for your income and your ability to pay a debt so income is not obselete or a nonfactor, but it is not a factor in how you are scored via FICO.

Re: New Fico Scoring System for 2008

Right --your FICO score is just one thing that a lender considers. They might well also look at your income, any other debts, your most recent history, bankruptcies, employment history, you name it.

My husband is a pilot, and I have some hours myself. I have never ONCE heard an accurate report of an aircraft accident on local news, national network news, or the cable networks, or at least not the initial report. I may have news on a lot of the time in the background, but I sure don't take their reports as gospel.

Re: New Fico Scoring System for 2008

I have been reading this board for about a month, I went through maybe 10000 posts, undoubtedly, I picked some very valueble info, but I concluded that nobody actually understands how FICO works (no offence meant). This software is as unpredictable as N.Korean president.

There are some general rules, but nobody  including FI people or CRAs' people. know how FICO react to some change.

A friend of mine is about to arrive to the States for 2 year fellowship and he asked me to describe US credit scoring system and I described it as a fickle person devoid any logic.

FICO 2008 is not going to factor in income--I'd give you 20 to 1 on it. How would Fair Isaac verify income?

The problem that we encounter is that we don't know the exact formulas, because they are proprietary. We get together and compare notes, post scores, and do a whole lot of inductive reasoning to attempt to figure out what's in there. There are so many different variables that it's awfully slow going to figure out what's what.

Here's something that might be useful for your friend. It's a collection of those boxed remarks that appear on the second screen of your FICO scores. There's nothing on there that your friend couldn't duplicate, other than length of history, and in fact there is a score bucket for those with very short histories. My three young adult kids started out with scores in the upper 600's or right at 700, as best as we can tell, and is probably where your friend will be after 6 months of established credit.

I don't know how this works, but would it be possible for him to establish credit with a US creditor before he arrives, and get a history going? If he could get a card, he could presumably use it for online orders, and so forth. If this were possible, he might get a jumpstart on the process.

Thanks to this forum I know general rules, but problem is planning. For instance, how many accounts one needs. MyFICO report indicates that I do not have enough revolving accounts in good standing, but I have 17 and all of them in good standing, or how many inqueries are too many and so forth.

If this were possible, he might get a jumpstart on the process.

Well, that is puzzling.

Could you start a new post, on this same board (Understanding FICO Scoring), listing the various pluses and minuses on your three reports, and which accounts you have? I have a small but dismal collection of lates, but I have never gotten a comment about accounts not being in good standing. And I only have 5 current revolving accounts and a few more closed.

Ah, I understand. I didn't know how that worked. Figures it wouldn't be that simple!

Re: New Fico Scoring System for 2008

Fico is the "IT" of all credit scores. Despite the fact that the three agencies got together to come up with VANTAGE score the bottome line is that it is not as widely used by banks and other companies as the FICO. so quite frankly they have a product but who wants to use it when FICO remains superior.
