Not allowing someone to pull your CR

Hi all! Long-time lurker, first post...

Altogether, I've think I've been pretty successful in not allowing a few places to see my CR when I didn't think it was appropriate.

Examples include:

DirecTV (had to pay up-front deposit)
Phone company (still got service)
Cable company (still got service)

Basically when they asked for SS and/or birthdate, I refused to give it to them, and asked why it was needed, it was for a CR pull.

Couple of questions:

Could they still be doing soft pulls?

and

Currently, I get cell phone service through my company, but I may want to spring for personal service (iPhone) via AT&T (nee Cingular). Will my approach work there?

Thanks!

Cingular hit me with two hard inqs (EU) first for new service, then for a second line.

Please try them for me and see.  And join me in complaining about it  Smiley Very Happy

Re: Not allowing someone to pull your CR

I was interested in getting Direct TV about six months ago.  When I spoke with the CSR, I asked if they would pull a hard inq, she said now sir only a soft one.  So I applied.  Liar, Liar pants on fire, I have a hard inq reporting on EQ, can I get rid of this?  Or is this a he said, she said situation?

Hey if they tell you they are not going to, and you specifically tell them not to, isn't that grounds for a dispute?

If they are, you would know it. SW doesn't show soft pulls, but reports from each of the Big Three and their monitoring services show 'em. At least TC does.

If you don't think they have PP, hit 'em with an ITS letter. Maybe they only recode it as a soft pull, but maybe you pick up a $1,000.
