Off to the Garden?

I've been lurking in the forums for a few months and decided to jump in for advice.   Previous company required us to use our own cards for travel/expenses then decided to only pay expenses when they felt like it while at the same time reducing salaries.  Due to stupidity I ended up robbing Peter to pay Paul and also got caught by the new CC legislation so every card I had upped my rates to max APR.   Needless to say it came down to BK13 in Aug2012 and burned AE (probably never get back in there, not that I really want to), Chase, CapOne, Citi and Barclays (tried for Aviator Red but declined withouth pull due to BK).  D/C in Nov 2017 after paying about 70% of the debt back over 5 years and a new job.  FFW to Jan 2018 applied and got QS1 ($3K and now $3.5K after 5 months) and Discover IT (never saw a HP but CL $800 and holding).   Let things settle for 6 months (today actually) and FICO 8 were TU 652 EQ 666 and EXP 668.  I was reading I really needed 3 cards to work the FICO scores so I app'd for Venture One since I was already a client and to hedge my bet on getting a 3rd card, later this afternoon pulled the trigger on an Ollo Rewards (no AF and $3K CL approval) I got a mailer for.  Both were HPs.   The Ollo I'll probably put some token stuff on it then pay it off each month to keep it active (maybe my Amazon Subscription stuff for approx $50/mo or something) because I really wanted it primarily for card count and util.    I really wanted the V1 but got the 7-10 day message which from reading is pretty standard.   Whether I get it or not either way is fine but my history with the QS1 is spotless always paying off and keeping util under 10% except 1 month.    Assuming now that I have three cards and 3 inq that my best bet is to head to the Garden to let them simmer.    I figure I need to get through at least end of next year to let the BK roll off before looking to get better cards considering those I burned IIB if then.  Reading here it sounds like some of them aren't very forgiving.   I may want to move in 2-3 years so I need to get my things back in order.

Re: Off to the Garden?

Three cards help to optimize scoring, but there's no rush to get there. Now that you have three cards, I think gardening is a good idea.

Is it possible that you applied for the VentureOne less than six months after acquiring your other Capital One card? If that's the case, you're simply "not eligible" rather than denied outright, and your credit reports will not have been pulled.

Re: Off to the Garden?

No I just made my 7th payment (Jan was first payment due) on the QS1, 6th on the Discover.   It may have been Dec when I applied for QS1 and first week of Jan for Disc.  They did a HP on all 3 bureaus this morning for the V1.  Ollo pulled EXP I know this afternoon but didn't get an alert on TU or EQ unless I missed it.  I use CC, CK for watching inq and FAKO scores.   I have EXP for monitoring, 3B reports, FICO scores, ID theft etc. Now that I have 3 cards probably going to lock all reports and engage in some horticulture.

Re: Off to the Garden?

Called the Cap One application support line.  They said waiting on verification and said one of the analyst would check and call me back in 10 minutes.  Got the call and verified PII then was told they would process and if approved would get card in a week or so.  Very nice people so we'll see whether I get a card or a letter.  I would really like the V1 but got the Ollo as a third card so whether I go gardening with 3 cards or 4 doesn't really matter.  I'm off the application teat until at least Jan 2020 which would be 7 years +2 months since my Ch13 filing and it should have rolled off my CRs.
