Old Baddies, how much are they affecting my scores????????????

Just curios to know, how much are a few 5 year old baddies paid or unpaid affecting my scores.  Using the score estimator and pretty much grasping every fact on my equifax credit report and estimating my new util% that will report next month it says my scores should be 672-712.  Now that seems pretty reasonable because it gave me my score rangefor my current score, and I put the exact stuff on my credit report now in the estimator.  My current score is 552 and it says that my scores should be 545-585.  So are the 5 year old baddies really having any affect on my scores, they are due to fall of in 2012, they went bad in 05, all of them(bad year).Smiley Mad

Re: Old Baddies, how much are they affecting my scores????????????

Let me correct my self real quick. On the score simulator it suggested to pay down 90-100% of cc bal, and my score should be in the reange of 672-712 based on the current information on my reports.  On the estimator, when I put the current factors that are on my current report it says that my scores should be 560-610 and my eq is 552.  When add the stuff that will be reported for next month, it says that my scores should be between 670-720.

Re: Old Baddies, how much are they affecting my scores????????????

The FICO score simulator intentionally does not let you accurately project short terms efffects of multiple categories changes in your CR on immediate score changes.  To simultaneously model both % util and the aging of derogs, and see their affect in the next few months, simply wont happen with the FICO simulator.  The sim limits seeing the affect of single categories, or changes over relatively long periods of time.  It is a proprietary trade secret, and will never give you enough to accurately model it in the short term, particulary for simultaneous changes in  multiple categories.

As a rough estimate, I would assume that minor old derogs, after five years, are probably costing around 5 pts each, and major derogs at lleast twice that.  Just my experience.  Yes, derogs in your CR hurt a lot until gone.  Getting over 700 with 5 derogs still on your CR will be extremely difficult.

Re: Old Baddies, how much are they affecting my scores????????????

Thanks,

I know that over 700 is a long shot, but I am not looking to get there anytime soon, I am not planning to buy a house until 2015, and by then all of my derogs will have fallen off and any automobiles that i have purchased should be paid off.  I am only trying to get my eq scores from what they are now to 655-670, so that my interest rates on the auto that I am trying to purchase won't be 18%.  The CU said, with a 650 I could get atleast 9.5% which isn't good but, it isn't 18% either.  I realize you need to practice controlling spending and managing your finances and credit, and , I think I have been doing ok for the last 3 years.  But, I also realize that good credit scores are only needed when making big purchases that can not be covered with cash, or obtaining employment that requires credit checks.   Last year around this time I got a 103 pt jump just by paying my util% down from 97 or 107 to 3% and  nothing else has changed on my report since then but my cc util going back up over 100%.  But next month it should report 1-3% for the total amount.  I wondering if I could see the same jump or better this year?

Thansk for the reply RobertEG, you give helpful advice, that sort of makes you thinkSmiley Happy

How effective is the score estimator?

Re: Old Baddies, how much are they affecting my scores????????????

Almost useless for any short term projections that only involves more than  one category of credit scoring.

You apparently have two goals.  Buying a house in 2015, and buying a car now.

Very short term score inceases in FICO scoring are only in your direct immedate control by reducing immediate % util on revolving accounts.  And those may take a month or two to post to your CR.

Your immediate FICO gains will come from paying down % util on revolving accounts.

The FICO Estimator which gives you a 50 point range low to high is pretty effective and more than worth the price. I found the Simulator useless for me. Absolutely.
