Starting Score: 469Hi byrdman, It was a very long and difficult process. I have been trying since august. It is for my electric co. They have me coded for 6 120 lates from march-aug 07. What I didnt realize is that when you make a payment arrangment with them, even though you are paying a little every month they still count the BACK balance as being late from day 1! Thankfully I paid them in full and overpaid in May but they still had me 120 late may-aug. I sent a gw back in aug and they wrote back saying that the info is accurate, cant delete. I printed bills from mar-aug...called them(asked for credit specialist) had my gw on file(gee,I didnt know) put me in touch with the same supervisor that shot down my gw(had a crushing feeling in my chest) I asked her why 120 lates are there when I was making payments, she told me about the back balance bs...then I asked her if we could go over EVERY bill and check for mistakes. She told me she would get back to me. Well a day later they called(she had one of her workers call) he was very nice and went through every bill with me, we had a great conversation we talked about myfico and how I am cleaning up credit. Well between our great conversation and their mistake for having a 120 late after I paid in full and kept current, he agreed to delete them! I must add that I have been paying in full since aug so that must have helped my situation. I treat my utility bill just as a credit card or mortgage, never, ever be late with them! I will update when the lates are off my report as he said 30-60 days, we shall see how many points are taken off score for 120 lates, this will be very interesting!

How did you get the utility company to do that? I really need that kind of love for TU. Did you write a GW? Did you call and speak to someone. Which dept? Would you mind sharing?

Starting Score: 469To Understanding FICO Scoring
The issue of deletion of derogs has been a long-time puzzle to me. Maybe someone has some knowledge on FICO would handle this:
Take two consumers with a reported 60-day late. Consumer 1 had both a 30-late and a 60-late reported, while consumer 2 had only the 60-late reported.
The OC agrees to delete the 60 late for both consumers. However, I presume that consumer 1 would benefit less, still having the 30-late reported.
Since it is not possible to have a 60-late without a 30-late, why would not both necessarily reach the same point?
Moving up the ladder with number of delinquencies reported, would a consumer who had every stage of monthly delinquency reported by the credtior, from 30 late up through 180 late then a charge off, benefit more from deletion of all the derogs than one who had only a 180 late and a charge off, with both deleted?
They both quack like the same duck to my ears.....
